How to create an App and its business model: a 10-step guide for entrepreneurs

The most successful Apps are not Apps!

Let me repeat slightly differently: The most successful Apps are not (just) Apps. They are the front-end to a great business model!

And in many cases that is the platform business model.

Many of the most successful Apps in terms of market capitalisation of the owning company are based on the platform business model. Some examples that I have covered are Google, Facebook, Snapchat, Pinterest, Uber, Airbnb, Booking.com, TripAdvisor, Expedia, Groupon, Yelp, Amazon Kindle.

Other mega players rely on this business model in crucial parts of their business as well, e.g. Amazon Marketplace, Apple App Store are based on this model. And then there are thousands more.

Developer or Startup founder?

If you are developing Apps for someone else, you might “not care” about the business model. But learning about it may help your client or yourself in future.

If you are a Startup founder or have an idea, you must know the content that we are covering in this series.
